QUESTIONS?

IF YE DON'T ASK, YE DON'T GET

Chances are, this is your first time booking a wedding photographer so you're bound to have questions.

I've compiled a wee list of frequently asked questions and grouped them into easy to navigate categories to help you answer the great mysteries of my wedding photography!

What I would really love is for you just to put me on the spot and throw those questions right at my face by scheduling a call and allow me to answer all your queries and alleviate any concerns you may have.

As that old BT advert said, "It's good to talk".

But we'll probably use zoom or something 'cause who has a landline in their home these days. Its all boiler installation deals and people telling me that they heard I was in an accident.

  • DO YOU NEED A DEPOSIT?
I do ask for a 20% deposit to secure your date with the balance payable 30 days prior to your wedding day. Payment can be made via BACS or credit/debit card.
  • HOW DO I BOOK?
I never book a wedding without first having a chat with you. This gives you a great opportunity to get to know me and what I'm all about and ask any questions you may have. So first thing's first, fill out my contact form and I'll be in touch with availability and to schedule a date that's suitable for us to have a blether. When you want to go ahead and book, I'll send you a quotation where you can pick your package and any additional extras, all hosted on your secure client portal, and this will generate an invoice for the deposit and a contract for you to review and sign. Then BOOM, I'm your photographer!
  • IS TRAVEL INCLUDED IN PRICE?
All packages include travel for up to 100 miles from G77. Don't worry, I'm not super strict and 103 miles is probably going to be fine but if your wedding is in a far off and magical land that will take me 7 hours to get to, then I may have to charge extra but not to worry, I'll be fully transparent with this so I won't send you any surprise bills for 5 nights in a swanky hotel!
  • WHAT HAPPENS IF I NEED TO RESCHEDULE?
If for whatever reason, you need to reschedule your wedding date, I am happy to transfer the deposit to the new date, if I am available and at least 8 months notice is provided, otherwise the deposit is non-refundable. If the new date is 12+ months away then the price may be subject to an increase.
  • WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU GET HIT BY A BUS?
I've actually been knocked down twice in my life. True story! I've never missed a wedding yet, but if the worst were to happen then I am fortunate enough to have a great network of talented wedding photographers to call upon.
  • YOU HAVEN'T SHOT AT MY VENUE, IS THAT A PROBLEM?
Not one little bit. In fact, I would argue that's it's very beneficial to have never shot at a venue as I get the chance to walk in with fresh eyes and see things in a different light. You might find that someone that has shot at your venue on many occasions become complacent and just go through the motions with no real desire for creativity.
  • CAN I SEE SOME FULL WEDDING GALLERIES?
YES! Top tip: Never book a photographer without first seeing a selection of full wedding galleries. Us photographers are a sneaky bunch with our portfolios, we purposefully pick out the best images and show you want we want you to see to draw you in but it is vitally important to make sure you look at a selection of full galleries to make sure that their quality of work & style is consistent and can handle a wide variety of lighting situations. Typically I would follow up our initial chat with an email containing a few examples for you to look at.
  • HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?
Jeez, that's such a subjective question but one that gets asked a lot! To me there's really two parts to the questions in there, style & approach. I would describe my editing style as relatively bright & natural with muted greens and then rich colours for my creative flash portraits My approach is for the most part documentary and to get close where possible. For portraits I adopt a relaxed approach with no "rules" as to how you should pose. I very much love to show movement where possible. I am also not a silent photographer. I like to have a bit of laugh, mingle with guests and use (bad) humour and self-deprecation to help people relax around me.
  • HOW MANY HOURS IS FULL DAY COVERAGE?
How long is a piece of string?! Hopefully not much longer than 10-12 hours! A full day for me starts around 2-3 hours before the ceremony and lasts until the first few dances and a good portion of dancefloor madness. I'm not watching the clock and plan on being there as long as it takes to give you an amazing gallery!
  • DO YOU TAKE FAMILY FORMAL PHOTOS?
Yes, they are important images to have! I'll give it to you straight though, family formals can be a tough gig for you and can take way longer than you think but I do strongly recommend having 8-10 combinations to include those most closest to you! We can always get a photo of you standing beside Aunty Bob later on at night. I will of course do my utmost to get through everything as quickly and efficiently as possible however if you plan on having every possible combination in a wedding of 300 people then I'm probably not your guy.
  • DO YOU NEED A LIST OF PHOTOS THAT WE WANT?
I have a pretty good idea of what needs to be captured on the wedding day so there is really no need to give me a list. We will of course discuss any special images you would like to have (first look, special charms, memory table) before the wedding but on the day, I will work at my best when I can make all the creative decisions!
  • CAN YOU STAY EVEN LONGER?
If your not sick of seeing my face for 10+ hours already and have plans for something a little later in the evening that you want me to capture then I can of course stay longer! My pricing page will show you my hourly rate that can be arranged before the wedding or even during it (no, I won't bring out a card reader on the dancefloor!)
  • DO WE NEED TO FEED YOU?
You don't NEED to but its very much appreciated. Weddings are loooong days so I would typically eat when you guys eat since you won't want a picture of you with gravy dripping down your chin and if I have to leave the venue then I would hate it if something was missed because of it! As long as you let me know beforehand and if a meal is provided, that it's confirmed with your caterer/coordinator otherwise I will make my own arrangements.
  • HOW MANY PHOTOS DO WE GET?
I always quote 500+ but in reality its usually around 600-700 fully edited images in both colour and black & white depending on what's happening during the day. One thing that I will never do is limit what you get. If the photo is in line with my criteria for quality of work then you'll see it in your gallery!
  • WHEN DO WE GET TO SEE OUR PHOTOS?
For sneak peeks, I do these a little bit different to most wedding photographers who will typically send you a small handful of images within 24-48 hours. When all the cake has been eaten and the last glass of champagne has been guzzled what you really want is a chance to relive the story of your day! That is why I take a few days longer and deliver a fully curated highlights slideshow that contain around 70+ images to really help you get back to your special day. It's honestly a much better experience for my couples and I love their reactions! For the full gallery, my quoted turnaround time is 6-8 weeks but this is highly dependant on the season and how many weddings I have on at that time and is often shorter than this time frame. If like me you are the impatient type, then feel free to consider booking in an expedited gallery (there's a FAQ question on this)
  • WHAT IS AN EXPEDITED GALLERY?
If you would like to book in an expedited gallery, this should be done prior to the wedding. For this, I will completely ignore my family for two weeks and really focus on delivering your gallery with the same level of quality within 2 weeks for the couple that just cant wait!
  • DO YOU OFFER PRINTS?
Is a photograph even real if it isn't printed?! I'm a big believer in printing photographs. Gone are the days when people pull out a shoebox full of photos for you to pour over and that's a bit of a shame. When you receive your online wedding gallery, you will find a gallery store where you and any invited guests can purchase professional lab printed photographs and delivered straight to your door. Your wedding definitely deserves to be on a mantlepiece or framed on a wall!
  • CAN I STILL ORDER AN ALBUM IF IT'S NOT IN MY PACKAGE?
Not a problem, you can order an album at any time and many people actually purchase an album for their 1 year anniversary. The cost of the album is reduced when purchased as part of a package however if you didn't originally choose an album and your full gallery hasn't been delivered yet, then I'm happy to upgrade your package to include one to take advantage of this!
  • HOW LONG DOES MY GALLERY STAY ONLINE?
Your online wedding gallery will remain online for no less than 12 months which is plenty of time to view and download your images. The great thing about an online gallery is that its a n easy way to have a secure backup that is always accessible to you wherever you are and if you want to keep them secure a bit longer, I do offer a low cost rolling subscription to keep it online year on year!
  • DO YOU RETAIN COPYRIGHT OF OUR PHOTOS?
Yes, as your professional wedding photographer, I will retain copyright of all your wedding images, however I always provide an official release for you allowing unlimited personal use and printing of your wedding photos.
  • CAN WE HAVE THE RAW FILES?
All RAW files are retained by Jason Kenneway Photography with no exceptions. I know that sounds kinda mean but the fact is, there is often confusion over what RAW files are. They are a type of file that require specialist software to open and contain all the data that the camera "sees" when I click the shutter. Think of it like the raw ingredients to a tasty dish. A chef ain't gonna slap a bunch of raw potatoes and a slab of cow on your plate without first cooking it!
  • WHY WOULD I NEED A SECOND PHOTOGRAPHER?
MORE PHOTOS! I can shoot a wedding alone with no problems and deliver a gallery that truly tells the story of your day however if you really wanted photographs from the morning preparations for both camps then a 2nd photographer is how we achieve that. Once the ceremony begins then you are able to have everything documented from different angles and viewpoints. Do you just loooove those candid photos of your guests? The 2nd photographer can be there during canapes while I'm busy with family formals and couples portraits. If you do decide to pay for another photographer on the day, you can be assured that they are also a true wedding photographer in their own right!
  • DO YOU OFFER VIDEOGRAPHY?
I do not offer any videography either by myself or as part of any combination package but I am more than happy to refer you to amazing videographers that I work well with. If you have both a photographer & videographer that work well together then everything runs so much more seamlessly!
  • WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?
Oh I do love gear talk being the gadget nut that I am! Weddings are a huge responsibility and there are no 2nd chances which is why the equipment I use is of professional quality and you will never find me using cameras with only 1 SD card slot.....backup backup backup! The cameras I use are primarily two Sony a9ii with one backup Sony a7iii. The a9ii is certainly something special as it allows me to shoot completely silently even in undesirable lighting conditions which is amazing for those intimate moments during the ceremony. Plus it's lighting quick to focus on those fleeting moments! Having two SD slots in each camera means that every time I take a photo, its saved to 2 separate cards simultaneously. I normally use what we call prime lenses which have a fixed focal length. They work amazing in low light and ooze quality. Mostly I will use the Sony 35mm 1.4 GM, Sony 85mm 1.4 GM and when needed I'll slap on the Sony 24mm 1.4 GM or the creamiest of portrait lenses, the Sony 135mm 1.8 GM. If you see me rocking only one camera at a time then I can do a whole wedding on the new Tamron 35-150mm 2-2.8. It's a bit of a beast! Other than that I have a host of lighting equipment to make sure I'm completely covered and I got backups for my backups should I butter finger anything!
  • ARE YOU INSURED AS A PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER?
I am indeed fully insured with Professional Public Liability & Indemnity insurance and can provide this upon request.
